One-Day Academic Writing Retreat

Are you struggling to get started with your academic writing? Or have you hit a block? If so, this intensive one-day writing retreat can help you get back on track and make significant progress with your article or thesis. You get the time and space to focus.

With guidance from an experienced facilitator, you'll set realistic goals and achieve them in a supportive environment. The programme includes warm-up exercises, group discussion, 1-2-1 coaching, and plenty of time to immerse yourself in writing. And you'll receive instruction in advance on how best to prepare for the retreat.

By the end of the retreat, you'll have:

  • a better understanding of your writing process and habits

  • strategies for improving your focus

  • techniques for planning and measuring progress

  • a peer group

  • a big chunk of writing!

Lunch and refreshments are provided. You'll need to bring your own laptop and/or writing materials.

About the Facilitator

Catherine Pope is an academic researcher and experienced workshop facilitator. Since completing her PhD in 2014, Catherine has worked with thousands of researchers and writers to help them achieve their goals. She runs workshops and writing retreats at many universities, including Sussex, Birkbeck, Canterbury Christ Church, Portsmouth, and Surrey. Catherine has also published books in her field of Victorian literature and on technology. She divides her time between the 19th and 21st centuries.

A member of the CHASE team or the workshop leader will contact you in due course to confirm that a place has been allocated to you. If you no longer require a place, please email as soon as possible so your name can be removed from the registration list.  

If you are allocated a place but can no longer attend, please email so that your place can be reallocated. CHASE training is free to attend and events are often oversubscribed with a waiting list. Failure to notify us of non-attendance in good time (ideally 5 days prior to the workshop/programme) means your place cannot be reallocated and may result in your access to future CHASE training being restricted.
